David Gorski, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S., associate professor of Surgery at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and surgeon at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center, was appointed leader of the Breast Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos effective Feb. 1.
As Breast MDT leader, Dr. Gorski is responsible for coordinating interdisciplinary collaboration among cancer experts to enhance the quality of patient care delivered by the medical team. He also is charged with promoting excellence in clinical cancer research and education, along with developing and implementing measures to improve the overall quality of patient care services provided by team members.
"I'm humbled and honored to have been chosen to be the leader of a team composed of such amazingly talented individuals," Dr. Gorski said. "It is my goal to continue the tradition of offering world-class care to every patient who comes to Karmanos."
In addition to Breast MDT leader, Dr. Gorski also serves as the co-director of the Comprehensive Breast Center and is co-leader of the Breast Cancer Biology Program at the School of Medicine and Karmanos. Additionally, he is the site project director of the Michigan Breast Oncology Quality Initiative, a partnership between Karmanos and the University of Michigan.
Dr. Gorski received his medical degree from the University of Michigan and received his doctorate degree in cellular physiology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Before joining the School of Medicine and Karmanos, he was an associate professor of Surgery at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, as well as a member of the Joint Graduate Program in Cell & Developmental Biology at Rutgers University in Piscataway.
