The Wayne State University Office of the Vice President for Research, Office of the Provost and the School of Medicine invite the campus community to learn more about epidemiology during the next Professional and Academic Development seminar.
Set for April 9, Epidemiology Expertise Across the Campuses will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the university Welcome Center Auditorium, located at the northwest corner of Woodward and Warren.
Discussion topics will include:
What is epidemiology?
What do epidemiologists do and how does this differ from the research work of biostatisticians?
How do epidemiologists participate in basic science research? Clinical research? Translational research?
What are some examples of epidemiology studies being done at Wayne State University and the Henry Ford Health System?
How can faculty at WSU and HFHS tap into the expertise of epidemiologists and are they willing to collaborate?
Ann Schwartz, Ph.D., M.P.H, deputy center director and executive vice president of Research and Academic Affairs for the Karmanos Cancer Institute and professor at the School of Medicine, will serve as moderator. Panelists include John Flack, M.D., M.P.H., professor and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine; Victoria Neale, Ph.D., M.P.H., professor of the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences; Ben Rybicki, senior scientist of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology Research for Henry Ford Health Systems; and Xinguang Chen, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of the Department of Pediatrics.
