John Harvey Barsch, M.D., (Class of 1960) of Oshkosh, Wisc., and Middleton, Wisc., died Nov. 14, 2008. He was 73.
Dr. Barsch earned his bachelor's degree at Albion College. He graduated from Wayne StateUniversity with a medical degree, specializing in anesthesiology. He served as a U.S. Air Force captain from 1962 to 1963, and completed residency training at Wayne StateUniversity in 1964, and residency and fellowship in anesthesia and critical care at Massachusetts General Hospital from 1965 to 1966. Dr. Barsch was an associate professor at Northwestern University and an anesthesiologist at Methodist and Meriter hospitals. Being an anesthesiologist was more than a job, it was his life. He loved witnessing countless miracles of medicine in the operating room, family members said.
Dr. Barsch is survived by his wife, Margaret Barsch; daughters, Leslie (Freeman) Folds (Rick) of Charleston, S.C., Michele (Freeman) Ring (Brian) of Oregon; Anne (Barsch) Martens (Kane) of Fergus Falls, Minn.; sons, Jeffrey Freeman of Avon, Colo., and John Heath (Jodi) Barsch of Belleview, Idaho; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry J. Barsch, M.D.
