Richard E. Smith, M.D., was been elected president-elect of the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) on May 2. Dr. Smith will serve as president-elect for one year and will become president in April 2009.

Dr. Smith is the service chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Henry Ford Hospital and director of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.

As past president of the Wayne County Medical Society of southeast Michigan, Dr. Smith has been a representative for Wayne County physicians and continues to serve on the board of directors of the MSMS Foundation.

He completed his residency with the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
