Burn rehab clinic opens
More than 2 million burn injuries occur each year in the United States, resulting in 100,000 to 300,00 hospitalizations. Because so many functions and systems of the body can be affected by severe burns, the need for rehabilitation is crucial. Dr. Antoine Geffrard, chief-of-staff at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, recently opened a Burn Rehab Clinic on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The program focuses on teaching patients the proper way to care and manage scarring, and concentrates on activities of daily living so patients can return to the workforce or their community as quickly and independently as possible.
