Starting Sept. 8, The Business of Biotechnology Seminar Series will be presented on Fridays from  3 p.m. to 5 p.m., in Room 3125, Scott Hall.  The course is designed to provide insight into the interface between science and business during the translation of  basic biomedical discoveries into clinical practice. The course will include a number of presentations from scientific and business development representatives from the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.

The seminars will focus on the science of innovation; the research and development pathway; clinical trials and regulatory approvals; biotech patents 101; business models; funding for biotech companies; academic-biotech-pharma alliances and the academic biomedical entrepreneur.

The series is intended for all students, postdocs and faculty interested in the process of  translational research;  the pathways of discovery and development; life in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry; the legal and financial drivers of bringing drugs, devices and diagnostics to the clinic and to market; and academic-industry relationships. For students interested in receiving credit, the course is listed for 2 credits as BMS6100 .
