Main Campus: Reaccreditation; 'Evita' discount

WSU gears up for reaccreditation
Wayne State University has started to prepare for a winter 2007 visit by an evaluation team from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. The visit, a formal procedure in which all accredited universities participate periodically, is required to maintain accredited status. The association evaluates formal educational activities, governance and administration, financial stability, admission and student personnel services, resources, student academic achievement, organizational effectiveness and relationships with outside constituencies.

Provost Nancy Barrett has appointed Paula Wood, dean of the College of Education, and Sandra Yee, dean of the University Library System, to co-chairs of a 30-member steering committee to guide a vigorous self-study process. All university units will be participating in the self-study, which will last until late 2006.

"We urge all units to give committee members their fullest cooperation during this important review process," she says. "Reaccreditation is by no means automatic, and commission representatives are known for being thorough and candid in their evaluation and recommendations. We should all approach the task in that same spirit. A well-executed self-study is a key factor in earning continued accreditation."
