AAMC supports fraud, abuse exceptions in health technology bill

Last week, the AAMC and 40 other organizations sent a letter to key members of Congress urging support for House of Representatives-passed fraud and abuse exceptions regarding the donation of health information technology. The letter acknowledges that previous regulations issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services offer some protection from physician self-referral, anti-kickback and civil monetary penalties for providers who donate health information technology. The groups believe, however, that these regulations "do not go far enough." The House provisions, the letter states, provide a "clear roadmap" of fraud and abuse exceptions.
