Organizations petition leaders to provide health coverage for children

The AAMC, along with other national hospital associations, has joined Families USA's Campaign for Children's Health Care-an effort to make health-care coverage for America's children a top priority nationwide. Members of the campaign are urging Congress and the Bush administration to address the issue of children's health coverage early this year. The campaign has organized an online petition calling on lawmakers to begin work immediately on legislation to provide comprehensive, affordable, high-quality health coverage for all children. In the coming months, the new Congress will consider re-authorizing the State Children's Health Insurance Program for the first time, providing an historic opportunity to secure additional funding to enroll more eligible children, as well as an opportunity to discuss other ways coverage for children might be expanded.
