Medicare rule proposed for resident training at non-hospital sites

On Jan. 25, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services published a proposal to modify requirements related to teaching hospitals that receive direct graduate medical education and indirect medical education payments for residents who train in non-hospital sites. The proposal would reduce the level of non-hospital site training costs that hospitals would need to incur in order to receive DGME and IME payments. The proposal also includes a number of other administrative changes. CMS will publish the proposed rule in the Federal Register on Feb. 1; there will be a 60 day comment period.
