JCAHO formalizes name change

Next month, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations -- an evaluation and accreditation body for hospitals and other health-care organizations and facilities -- will formally change its name to The Joint Commission. According to JCAHO President Dennis O'Leary, M.D., the change is intended to make the organization's name "more memorable than the current 18-syllable" version.
