Hospitals urge Congress to provide health coverage for children

U.S. Senators Max Baucus (D.-Mont.), Orrin Hatch (R.-Utah), Jay Rockefeller (D.-W.V.) and Gordon Smith (R.-Ore.) joined the Campaign for Children's Health Care and an alliance of national hospital and health-care associations on Thursday at a National Town Hall Meeting on Children's Health Coverage. Participants in the Town Hall Meeting, of which the AAMC was a sponsor, urged Congress to begin work on legislation to provide coverage for children, particularly to reauthorize and fully fund the State Children's Health Insurance Program. Following the national event at George Washington University Hospital, in Washington, D.C., regional coalitions held more than 35 local town hall meetings at hospitals across the country. Attendees of the town hall meetings joined millions of Americans demanding action on children's health insurance by signing an online petition (http://www.aamc.org/advocacy). An archived Web cast of the National Town Hall Meeting is available online. For more information, please visit the website.
