Dr. Fitzgerald dies at 65

Dr. Robert H. Fitzgerald, Jr., former chair of the WSU Department of Orthopaedic Medicine, died Jan. 15 in Decatur, Ind., from idopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 65. Dr. Fitzgerald served as chair of orthopaedic surgery from 1989 to 1995 before going on to serve in a similar capacity at the University of Pennsylvania until 2001. Most recently, Dr. Fitzgerald had served as chief of orthopaedic surgery at Adams Memorial Hospital, in Decatur. Dr. Fitzgerald is survived by his wife, Jamie, seven children and three grand children. Memorial donations can be made in the name of Dr. Fitzgerald to the Hip Society Endowment Fund via OREF.org.
