RWJF announces campaign to reverse childhood obesity

Last week, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation announced that it will commit at least $500 million over the next five years to address the public health threat of childhood obesity; the foundation wants to reverse the U.S. epidemic by 2015. More than 33 percent of American children and adolescents -- approximately 25 million kids -- are overweight or obese. RWJF will focus on improving access to affordable healthy foods and opportunities for safe physical activity in schools and communities, with particular emphasis on high-risk populations, including African-American, Latino, Native American, Asian American and Pacific Islander children living in low-income communities.
