Research: Call for study participants

Study participants needed
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences are seeking study participants for a study seeking to understand risk factors of psychiatric disorders. Two groups of participants are required. In the first group, investigators are seeking those who are:

  • between the ages of 10 and 20;
  • have no history of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder;
  • have no current problems with drugs or alcohol; and
  • have a first-degree or second-degree relative with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.

Some medical conditions and medications may disqualify participants. Those eligible will be asked to undergo physical, psychiatric and neuropsychological examinations; brain-imaging studies; and allow a diagnostic interview with the relative who has schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.

The second group of participants must be:

  • between the ages of 10 and 20;
  • have no prior history of psychiatric illness or problems with drugs or alcohol;
  • have no first-degree relatives or second-degree relatives with a psychotic disorder; and
  • no current emotional or nervous problems.

Eligible participants will be asked to undergo physical, psychiatric and neuropsychological examinations as well as brain imaging.

All participants, including relatives of participants, will be compensated. For more information or to volunteer, please call (800) 650-7837.
