New data predicts future applicant numbers

The AAMC's call to increase U.S. medical school enrollment by 30 percent over the next decade has raised the question of whether sufficient medical school applicants will be available to meet the desired increase. The May edition of the AAMC's Analysis in Brief addresses this question by examining U.S. undergraduate trends and projecting medical school applicant numbers to 2015. By comparing these projections to historic applicant-to-matriculant ratios -- an important indicator of whether medical schools can fill their classes -- the authors investigate whether enough new college graduates will apply to medical school to sustain the enrollment recommendation.
