Cover the Uninsured Week kicks off

Cover the Uninsured Week 2007, a national effort to raise awareness of the crisis of the uninsured and to mobilize the nation to work toward solutions, is this week. The campaign, in its fifth year, is sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This year, with reauthorization of the State Children's Health Insurance Program pending, the campaign will focus on covering kids as an important first step toward covering all Americans. Nearly 2,000 CTUW activities are taking place across the nation, including more than 1,200 health coverage enrollment events. The AAMC is a national supporter of CTUW. Again this year, the AAMC offered a grant program administered by the association's Organization of Student Representatives, to fund CTUW activities sponsored by medical students. Seven medical schools and their student representatives were awarded funding to organize activities on their campuses and in their local communities. The awardees are: Albany Medical College, "Karaoke for a Cause;" Emory University School of Medicine, "Cover] the Uninsured Vigil;" Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, "Oral Health Screening;" Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, "Serving the East Baltimore Community;" University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, "Promoting Health Care Coverage for Children;" University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, "Symposium for Increasing Health Care Access in Wisconsin;" and Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, "Cover the Uninsured Week 2007."
