AAMC, American Legacy Foundation release data on smoking cessation efforts

According to a new study conducted by the AAMC Center for Workforce Studies for the American Legacy Foundation, more needs to be done to promote physician involvement in efforts to reduce tobacco use and to encourage smoking cessation. The report, "Physician Behavior and Practice Patterns Related to Smoking Cessation," states that physicians who advise their patients to quit can increase success rates by 30 percent and recommends expanding medical school curricula and CME programs to cover smoking cessation and behavior change.
