Palliative care conference set for Oct. 12

The Center to Advance Palliative-Care Excellence, housed in the WSU College of Nursing, is presenting its first-ever Palliative Care regional conference, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Doubletree Hotel Dearborn, 5801 Southfield Service Drive, in Detroit.
Co-sponsored by Hospices of Henry Ford, Hospice of Michigan and the Veteran Affairs Health System, the day-long event is intended to provide clinical and evidence-based content about advanced disease processes, prognoses, symptom distress and treatment; discuss innovations and interventions that work to improve the delivery of palliative care across diverse settings, and to provide a forum for collaboration and networking across diverse disciplines within the palliative care community. Health care professionals from throughout the Midwest are being encouraged to attend.

Registration is $125 for physicians, $85 for nurses and other health care professionals, and $60 for students and physician residents. Advance registration must be received by Friday, Oct. 5. On-site registration begins at 7 a.m., Oct. 12, including breakfast and a live music in the meditation room, provided by the integrative psychotherapist Megan Gunnell, MSW, MT-BC, board certified music therapist for Bon Secours Cottage Health Services in Grosse Pointe, Mich., and staff member at the Center for Creative Living, Inc. The conference has been accredited through Henry Ford Health System to qualify for 7.75 credit hours for physicians and 7.5 CEUs for social workers, and through DMC to qualify for 7.5 CEUs for nurses.
