Minority students encouraged to attend AAMC medical career fair

Only 14 percent of medical school graduates are racial and ethnic minorities, yet these groups make up 28 percent of the U.S. population. In an effort to expand the diversity of the physician workforce, the AAMC will host a medical career recruitment fair and awareness workshops on Nov. 3 in Washington D.C., in conjunction with the association's annual meeting. High school students, college students, pre-health advisors, school administrators, parents and others will have the opportunity to meet and interact with minority affairs officers, admissions officers, financial aid professionals and current students from U.S. medical schools and other health-professions schools. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend panel discussions on medical school preparation, admissions, financial assistance and summer enrichment programs; learn about and explore AspiringDocs.org; and participate in interactive medical and health activities.
