Information Technology: Safety tips

Safety tips can help systems run smoothly
Running anti-virus programs and updating your system regularly can keep your computer working safely. WSU provides Symantec AntiVirus free to all students and employees. To download, visit http://computing.wayne.edu/software or install it from the WSU Toolkit CD-ROM (to obtain a copy, visit http://computing.wayne.edu/toolkit). Anti-virus programs need to be updated regularly, so that they can recognize newly evolving viruses. Set Symantec AntiVirus to update itself automatically at least once a week.

Also, it's important to download security updates and "patches" for operating systems and other software. Sometimes bus are discovered in a program that may allow an intruder to access your computer. Most major software companies release updates and patches to close newly discovered vulnerabilities. For more tips on how to stay safe online, please visit http://computing.wayne.edu/staysafe.
