Dr. Steven Kanter named editor of Academic Medicine

Steven L. Kanter, M.D., has been selected as the next editor-in-chief of Academic Medicine, the AAMC's monthly peer-reviewed journal. Dr. Kanter, who will continue to serve as vice dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, will take the journal's helm on Jan. 1. He brings to his new role a variety of experience in clinical medicine, medical education, medical school administration and medical informatics.

Dr. Kanter has been a member of the journal's editorial board since 2005. He succeeds Michael A. Whitcomb, M.D., who has served as editor-in-chief of Academic Medicine since 2002. Dr. Whitcomb, who retired from the AAMC in 2006, announced his intention to step down as editor earlier this year.
