AAMC testifies on VA physician recruitment

Richard D. Krugman, M.D., dean and vice chancellor for health affairs at theUniversity of Colorado School of Medicine and chair of the AAMC, testified on behalf of the association last week before the U.S. House of RepresentativesVeterans Affairs Health Subcommittee on the recruitment and retention of physicians at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He urged the committee to address a critical shortage of adequate VA research space, in order to recruit the best clinician scientists. The AAMC has recommended that Congress provide $45 million annually for the VA's minor construction budget dedicated to renovating existing research facilities.
