AAMC supports Medicaid moratorium extension bill

The AAMC has issued a letter of support for the "Public and Teaching HospitalPreservation Act," proposed legislation that would extend for one year themoratorium on implementation of Medicaid rules regarding cost limits and"units of government," and the elimination of matching payments for graduate medical education. The current moratorium expires on May 25. In theletter, AAMC President Darrell G. Kirch, M.D., expresses particular concern about the loss of Medicaid graduate medical education funding, "since these payments help teaching hospitals sustain one of their core responsibilities-training physicians who will care for Medicaid and other patients for decades to come."
