AAMC panel calls for change in obesity education

A new report, commissioned by the AAMC, calls for a change in the way tomorrow's doctors think about the prevention and treatment of overweight and obesity for their patients and within their communities. The report is the work of a national panel of experts on obesity and obesity education. The panel members call for a multidisciplinary approach to obesity study and education, including more programs in basic science, medicine and population health education. The report also suggests a change in the way doctors view obese patients. Included in the report are examples of programs and courses at medical schools that are already incorporating overweight and obesity education into their curricula in innovative and effective ways.
