AAMC analysis makes case for sustaining medical research capacity

An article published in the Sept. 6 New England Journal of Medicine reports on a recent AAMC survey that documents that U.S. medical schools, spurred by growth in the NIH budget, invested substantially in faculty and new infrastructure, but in spite of the plethora of scientific opportunities and contrary to their expectations, they are facing a possible fifth year of progressively declining purchasing power of the NIH budget.  The article was written by Howard Dickler, M.D.; Stephen Heinig; David Korn, M.D.; and Jack Krakower, Ph.D., all of the AAMC.
