Research Administration: NIH announces new award, Sinai Guild grants

NIH announces high-priority, short-term project award
The National Institutes of Health recently announced a new opportunity for researchers to obtain funding through an NIH High-Priority, Short-Term Project Award, or R56. The grants, which will be awarded beginning in fiscal year 2005, will fund for one or two years high-priority new or competing renewal R01 applications that fall just outside the limits of funding of the participating NIH institutes and centers. Investigators may not apply for an R56 grant. Recipients of such awards will be selected by IC staff from R01 applications that fall at or near the payline margins.

Sinai Guild grant request submissions due July 1
Grants from the Sinai Guild are available for medical research or medical equipment. The deadline for submission is Thursday, July 1.

Proposals should include:

  • A brief (one page or less) cover letter signed by your fiscal agent's executive director of board president formally asking the guild to consider the grant request.
  • A two-page description of the program or project for which your organization is seeking funding. Please include a brief history of the organization.
  • A completed Initial Proposal Cover Sheet and Summary.

The grant committee meets in July and August to review requests, hear presentations and make recommendation. Final grant determinations will be made by the end of November. Grant recipients will receive notification of grant awards in December. Official presentations will be made at the Sinai Guild's annual meeting in May.
