Public Affairs: WSU in the news; call for information

WSU faculty featured in the news
Two Wayne State University physicians have been featured prominently in the news recently. Jack Sobel, M.D., professor and chief of the WSU Division of Infectious Disease, published an article in the New England Journal of Medicine on a new treatment standard for recurrent yeast infections. News of the study was picked up by several news outlets, including the Associated Press, and the story was featured by media worldwide. In fact, the coverage was so expansive that the Public Affairs office had to call off its clips service after 1,000 hits were recorded. Similarly, Paul H. Wooley, Ph.D., WSU professor of orthopaedic surgery and director of research for the department, was featured extensively in stories about problems women encountered by women who have had breast implants. Most recently, he was featured in the Houston Chronicle on Sept. 4. Dr. John Flack, associate chair of WSU's Department of Internal Medicine, was featured in the Detroit Free Press and Fort Wayne Sentinel about President Bill Clinton's heart surgery experience setting an example for people to recognize, prevent and treat heart disease early.
