Senate urges CMS to continue clinical trial reimbursement

The U.S. Senate has added an amendment to the fiscal year 2008 Labor-Health
and Human Services-Education appropriations bill that urges the Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services to continue to permit reimbursement for
services rendered to Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in federally funded or
reviewed clinical trials. The AAMC joined the American Society of Clinical
Oncology and the Association of American Cancer Institutes in a letter of
support for the amendment, noting that Senate support "will help ensure that does not move forward with any change in status for federally funded or
reviewed trials."
