Medical student honored for community service

Meredith Greene, a WSU School of Medicine student, will be awarded an Outstanding Community Impact Award by Michigan Campus Compact. Ms. Greene was chosen from a nomination pool of more than 200 students from colleges and universities across the state. Only five undergraduate students and one graduate student were honored this year with the Outstanding Student Impact Award. Meredith received the award for outstanding commitment to community service throughout her college career. This award is the highest honor in the state for a student doing community service as part of their college education.

Ms. Greene is receiving the award because of her exceptional commitment to community service. Ms. Greene devotes her time and resources to many community agencies in the Detroit area, including Covenant House, Code Blue, Cass Clinic and the Detroit Wayne County Public Health Authority Primary Care Advisory Committee. As a mentor, teacher and health care provider, Ms. Greene has proven her understanding of the challenges urban area community members face when trying to live a healthy lifestyle and receive adequate health care.
