The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation recently awarded grants totalling almost $225,000 to three members of the WSU Department of Emergency Medicine. Robert Zalenski, M.D., director of clinical research for the WSU Department of Emergency Medicine, received $139, 434 for his study, "Palliative Care Consultation for Hospitalized Patients with Severe Heart Failure." Phillip D. Levy, M.D., WSU assistant professor of emergency medicine, received $74,122 for his study, "Preclinical Cardiac Dysfunction among an Asymptomatic Cohort of Predominantly African-American Hypertensive Patients Presenting to an Urban Emergency Department: A Prevalance Study." Robert Sherwin, M.D., WSU assistant professor of emergency medicien, was awarded almost $10,000 for his study, "The CREDO Initiative: Identification of Frequent Emergency Department Users."
