Dr. Winkler named vice president-elect of ARVO

Barry S. Winkler, Ph.D., WSU adjunct professor of anatomy and cell biology, is the new vice president-elect of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the leading organization dedicated to research, training, publication and dissemination of knowledge in vision and ophthalmology. ARVO has more than 11,500 members in the United States and in more than 70 other countries. Dr. Winkler, an ARVO Board of Trustees member, will serve as vice president-elect in 2007-2008 and then as vice president in 2008-2009. He previously served as a member and chairman of a visual sciences study section of the National Institutes of Health and on the editorial board of Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science. He also serves as professor of biomedical sciences in the Eye Research Institute of Oakland University.
