Dr. Shields to receive molecular imaging award

Anthony Shields, M.D., Ph.D., WSU professor of medicine and oncology, recently learned he will receive the Peter Valk Distinguished Clinical Scientist Award at the Academy of Molecular Imaging Conference in Orlando, Fla., in March. Dr. Shields was recognized for his work on developing new imaging technologies to measure tumor response to therapy, particularly using positron emission tomography. These imaging approaches are now being used in the assessment of new cancer therapies. Dr. Shields is also involved in the development of new drug therapies for the treatment of solid tumors, especially gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Shields is also associate center director of clinical research at the Karmanos Cancer Institute and chief of the gastrointestinal oncology section in the WSU Division of Hematology/Oncology.
