Renu A. Kowluru, Ph.D., WSU associate professor of ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute, recently received an R01 grant award from the National Institutes of Health for her proposal, Glycemic Control and Progression of Diabetic Retinopathy. The total support for five years is $1,881,250.

This study will investigate the role of retinal mitochondrial dysfunction in the progression of diabetic retinopathy even after good glycemic control is re-established.
