WSU internal medicine residents honored

Several WSU residents in internal medicine at Sinai-Grace Hospital were honored at two recent scientific meetings. At the American College of Cardiology Michigan Chapter Scientific Meeting, in October, Ramesh Kotihal, M.D., and Arvind Reddy, M.D., were poster finalists. Their studies were, respectively, "Antiplatelet Therapy for Secondary Prevention of Coronary Artery Disease" and "Sterol and stanol ester-based margarines have a significant role in reducing plasma cholesterol levels."

At the American College of Physicians Michigan Chapter Scientific Meeting, in September, the following residents were recognized:

  • Mehrdad Ghaffari, M.D., received a second-place award for oral presentation in the research division.
  • Oronde White, M.D., received a third-place award for oral presentation in the research division for "Decreasing Renal Function as a Predictor of Incident Cardiovascular Disease in Diabetics."
  • Kavitha Potluri, M.D., won the poster presentation in the EMB category for "Role of Surgery in Refractory Epilepsy."
  • Vibha Nayak, M.D., was a poster finalist for "Alternative Methods of Bone Mineral Density Assessment."
  • Arvind Reddy, M.D., was a poster finalist for "Pneumocystosis of the Brain Presenting as Ring-Enhancing Lesions: A Rare Clinical Manifestation" and "Sterol and stanol ester-based margarines have a significant role in reducing plasma cholesterol levels."
  • Ramesh Kotihal, M.D., was a poster finalist for "Antiplatelet Therapy for Secondary Prevention of Coronary Artery Disease."
