Residents and fellows in the WSU Department of Internal Medicine report several recent successes:
- Three papers authored by WSU internal medicine residents have been accepted for poster presentation at the American Medical Association's December research symposium in Atlanta. They are:
- Drs. Abhinav Deol and Janeline Daubert, authors of "Hemoptysis as a presenting complaint in sarcoidosis: A case report and review of literature" (Dr. Lie Lui assisted in preparing the abstract and poster);
- Drs. Raul Torres-Heiseche and Laura Johnson, authors of "Insidious Onset of Chylothorax after Thoracic Surgery" (Dr. Jorge Guzman assisted in preparing the abstract and poster); and
- Drs. Savitha Shastry and Laura Johnson authors of "Persistent High-Grade Fever as a Presenting Symptom in Adrenal Insufficiency" (Dr. Gappy assisted in preparing the abstract and poster).
- "Thiazolinediones (TZDs) and Progressions of Renal Disease in Diabetic Patients," by Dr. Abhijeet Goyal, was accepted for publication in the" Journal of Ethnicity and Disease," Volume 14, Autumn 2004. He was mentored by Dr. Errol Crook, chair of internal medicine.
- "Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Newer Treatment Improves Outcome," by Dr. Kasem Sirithanakul, M.D., a fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, was accepted for publication in the November issue of "The Journal of Family Practice." Dr. Kamal K Mubarak, assistant professor, mentored Dr. Sirithanakul.
