Charles E. Lucas, M.D., WSU professor of surgery, was honored with the 2004 National Safety Council Surgeon's Award for Service to Safety. The citation specifies "continuous and indefatigable committment to the care of injured patients, the development of trauma-care standards, the prevention of injuries and the training of future trauma surgeons over the last 35 years." The award was presented at the American College of Surgeons' 90th Clinical Congress, in New Orleans.
