StoryCorps to record stories with the Arab American community in Dearborn, Michigan

National oral history organization will record, preserve, and share stories August 10 & 11 at the Islamic Center of America

August 8, 2012 – StoryCorps, the national nonprofit organization dedicated to recording, sharing, and preserving the stories of people from all backgrounds and beliefs, will spend two days recording interviews with the Dearborn Arab-American community as part of its cross-country MobileBooth tour.

StoryCorps’ MobileBooth—an Airstream trailer outfitted with a professional recording studio—will be parked at the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn for two days—Aug. 10 & 11. StoryCorps is partnering with WDET 101.9 FM, the Islamic Center of America, ACCESS/Arab American National Museum, and Yemeni American News. All StoryCorps interviews are recorded free of charge and, with participant permission, will be archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Local stories can be heard on WDET 101.9 FM.

WDET and Arab American community partners will host a press event on Friday, Aug. 10, to introduce and interview StoryCorps and Islamic Center of America staff.

General Press Guidelines

  • Cameras will be allowed in the MobileBooth before interviews begin. Photographs and video can be shot from outside the window during interviews.
  • Press can listen to interviews, with participant permission, on wireless headphones (when available) from outside the booth.
  • Press can interview participants, with their permission, before and after their StoryCorps interviews.
