Detroit, Michigan September 04, 2001:
The WSU College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions will be visited by American Pharmaceutical Association - Academy of Students of Pharmacy (APhA-ASP) House Speaker, Aubrey Giebeig on Wednesday, September 26th as part of the APhA Student Outreach Program. Each fall, as part of the program, the APhA-ASP Executive Committee visits approximately half of the eighty-two colleges of pharmacy across the country. The purpose of the visit is to inform students, faculty, and university administrators of the many national programs, educational opportunities, and benefits of being involved in the student professional organization.
Ms. Giebeig is currently a pharmacy student at the University of Florida. She was elected APhA-ASP Speaker of the House during the APhA Annual Meeting held March of this year in San Francisco. As Speaker of the House, Ms. Giebeig will preside over the APhA-ASP House of Delegates sessions held during the2002 APhA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. The APhA-ASP House of Delegatesis the legislative body that introduces and votes on resolutions that guide the organization in its policies.
Past visits have historically sparked a lot of student interest in professional activities. APhA's last visit in 1999 was instrumental in the rebuilding of the APhA-ASP Chapter at Wayne State University. According to Thomas Simonelli, current APhA-ASP Chapter President, "This is APhA's opportunity to showcase on a local level the many national programs they sponsor. Aubrey is a fine steward of our profession, and our chapter is excited to have her visit Wayne State University."
Ms. Giebeig will be meeting with pharmacy students in the Wayne County Medical Society Auditorium at 11:30a on the 26th. Although the program is geared for current and future pharmacy students, any student interested in attending may contact Thomas Simonelli at (734) 243-3259 for additional information.
