WSU faculty take part in International Conference on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance

Infectious diseases experts of the Wayne State University School of Medicine will take part in the International Conference on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance during World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, Nov. 18-24.

Sponsored by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education and the WSU School of Medicine, the conference will feature experts from India and the United States.

WSU experts will present Nov. 19, the second day of the conference, under the title “Smarter Use of Antimicrobials For the Current Era.” Speakers include:

Pranatharthi Chandrasekar, M.D., professor of Internal Medicine and chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, who will give opening remarks.

Sanjay Revankar, M.D., professor of Internal Medicine and Division of Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program director, who will present “Drug Resistance in Antifungal Stewardship.”

Marco Scipione, PharmD, clinical pharmacist specialist in Infectious Diseases for the Detroit Medical Center, who will speak on the “Evolving Role of Clinical Pharmacy as an Integral Part of Antimicrobial Stewardship.”

Teena Chopra, M.D., M.P.H., professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, and corporate medical director of Hospital Epidemiology, Infection Prevention and Antibiotic Stewardship for WSU and the DMC, who will present “Code Blue of Antibiotic Stewardship.”
